A good Dutch style downpour and one overpriced Indonesian meal
later, accompanied by the lovely Monique we headed out to catch
Louie Vega play live at one of Amsterdam's finest venues, Panama.
Sense of direction not being one of our strong points a slightly
"scenic" route was taken involving an impromptu late-night
tour of Amsterdam's harbour, before common sense belatedly prevailed
and we jumped shivering and soaking into a taxi.
Having been on the verge of giving up and going back to the hotel,
we could not have been happier that we'd made it. Louie Vega's set
was, in a word, AWESOME. Building slowly with some exquisite Latin-house
rhythms, the night hit a stunning peak as Louie was joined on stage
by singer Anane and guitarist/vocalist Raul
Midon to preview tracks from his new album "Elements of
Life". One of the best shows we've seen for a long, long time.
Finally a quick mention to the Appelsap DJs, who were playing some
great stuff in the second room.
